HIGHLAND LIBRARY RECEIVES FUNDING FROM STATE SENATOR GEORGE AMEDORE
October 18, 2015
Senator George Amedore today announced he has secured a $200,000 grant to help with the construction of the new Highland Public Library. He announced the grant at a ceremony today held at the future home of the new library, which is expected to begin construction in Spring 2016.
“Libraries are an integral part of our communities, and it’s important to make sure they have the resources necessary to continue to provide crucial services to our residents,” said Senator George Amedore. “The Highland Public Library has done an incredible job serving the community for one hundred years, but their current facility is too small and in need of costly repairs. The new energy-efficient facility will be state of the art and will provide much-needed space, added community rooms and expanded services. The entire community is going to benefit from this investment, and I’m glad I was able to help secure this funding to help with this project.”
“The library is thrilled and honored to be receiving this funding from Senator Amedore. The funds will enable the library to ensure the new building offers the community everything they requested during our public forums; a modern, spacious building with a community meeting room and the newest technology available,” said Julie Kelsall-Dempsey, Library Director, Highland Public Library.
Upon its completion, the new library will provide easy access for the disabled and elderly, and will feature a community room for meetings and events. The new library will provide state of the art technology, reading areas, project spaces and an expanded parking lot.
The funding was secured by Senator Amedore from the State & Municipal grant program, which provides monies to help localities with capital projects and infrastructure improvements.
