Senator George Amedore today announced an Earth Day Poster Contest, a statewide contest sponsored by the New York State Senate, that encourages student awareness of environmental issues. The theme of the contest is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and is open to students in grades K-6 throughout the 46th Senate district.

“As we look forward to celebrating Earth Day in April, this poster contest is a way to encourage our young students to be creative and learn more about the importance of protecting and preserving our environment for future generations,” said Senator Amedore.

Students wishing to participate in this year’s event can submit their entry by April 6, 2015 via the Senator’s website, www.amedore.nysenate.gov. The winning posters from the district will be posted on the website and featured in an Earth Day display in the Legislative Office Building in Albany along with winning entries from across the state.

“Since the first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, over 20 million Americans have participated in efforts to improve the quality of our environment,” said Senator Amedore. “This contest is a way to promote awareness and teach our students to respect and appreciate the natural resources that surround them.”
