The Stone Ridge Library has received an $8,000 grant from the New York State Senate through the efforts of State Senator George A. Amedore, Jr., a Republican representing the 46th Senatorial District. The funds will be used to purchase six new PC workstation computers for public access and two PCs and barcode scanners for use at the Circulation Desk. The workstations will replace the existing public computers that were last upgraded in 2009.
“Current technology needs address two sides of the spectrum for service to our patrons,” said Library Director Jody Ford. “On the one hand, a significant portion of our population still relies on standard PCs for research, job applications, and personal email communication. On the other side of the technology spectrum are tech-savvy patrons for whom the 2D scanners will serve to accommodate their library cards held on mobile devices—a trend that we expect to continue.”
“We are grateful to Sen. Amedore,” commented Robert Miraldi, President of the Library’s Board of Trustees. “This funding helps us serve our patrons. We are a small but very busy library, and offering computer services is vital to our mission.” “And, with so much money going towards the Library’s building restoration and renovation,” Miraldi said, “finding money for computers has been difficult. This helps us and our patrons tremendously.”
“Libraries are an integral part of our communities, and it’s important to make sure they have the resources necessary to continue to provide crucial services to our residents,” said Senator George Amedore. “I’m glad I was able to secure this funding for the Stone Ridge Library to replace their aging PCs and purchase new scanners that will be compatible with today’s technology. The library already does an incredible job serving the community, and these improvements will create an even better experience for those who visit.”
The Stone Ridge Library is a member of the Mid-Hudson Library System and is housed in a 1798 stone building on the town’s historic Main Street. Last year, the Library had 69,000 visitors and circulated approximately 37, 000 books, and more than 73,000 total items.
The Library’s website, stoneridgelibrary.org, provides information about programs and services, local history, the Library's collections, the capital campaign and the Stone Ridge Library Foundation.
