Senator Amedore Statement: More Than Half of Gea Eliminated in This Year’s State Budget

George A. Amedore, Jr.

March 30, 2015

I am pleased that the agreed upon New York State budget will eliminate more than 50 percent of the GEA (Gap Elimination Adjustment) that has devastated school districts since it was enacted in 2010.

The GEA has cost schools in the 46
th Senate district more than $99 million, forcing them to cut programs and reduce services at the expense of our children’s education. Elimination of the GEA has been one of my top priorities, and while I am pleased at the progress being made in this budget, I will continue to advocate for its complete elimination.

There is no better investment New York can make in our future than making sure our schools are properly funded so our future generations can get the best possible education.
