As the Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Libraries, State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) encourages summer reading for children and families.
Senator Farley’s summer reading brochures were delivered to area schools last week .
“Every year, I send reading material to schools to distribute to children,” Senator Farley explained, “ as it is extremely important for young people to read over the summer to retain, and improve, their reading skills over the school break.”
For those who would like copies of these materials, visit http://www.nyread.com/ and register with Senator Farley to receive them in time for summer.
Senator Farley also encourages families to use their local libraries this summer and sign up for their reading programs as they are teaming up with the New York State Library to give children the opportunity to receive reading lists and participate in activities. At the end of the program, participants receive formal recognition for their reading achievement.
“This year’s theme is a fun one called ‘Every Hero Has a Story,’ and the libraries in my district are planning some exciting and unique programming with this theme,” Senator Farley said. “Our libraries offer numerous resources and programs for both children and their parents, and I hope that everyone spends time at their libraries this summer.”
Public libraries located in Senator Farley’s district are listed at http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/libs/pldtools/map_sen/49.htm
