Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is partnering with the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) to provide services and assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure.
Senator Martins has arranged to have DFS’ Mobile Command Center come to the Hicksville Library (169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville) on Tuesday, May 19th from 10 am to 6 pm.
DFS staff members will be on hand to provide one-on-one assistance to homeowners in need. Depending on individuals' specific situations, DFS staff can help homeowners:
- Understand what happens when falling behind on mortgage payments;
- Learn more about the foreclosure process;
- Understand homeowner rights;
- Know about alternatives to foreclosure;
- Learn more about federal programs, loan modification and other forms of relief;
- File a complaint seeking resolution with a bank or mortgage service.
Homeowners should bring copies of relevant documents, such as identification, records of mortgage payments, correspondence from lenders, foreclosure notices, or any other information relevant to their personal situation which could be useful to DFS staff in helping to provide assistance. The program is open to everyone and no appointments are necessary.
Residents who would like more information about this program can call Senator Martins’ office at 516-746-5924. Homeowners who are unable to attend the program but need assistance can call the Department of Financial Services’ foreclosure prevention hotline at 1-800-342-3736 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
