Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently served as a guest speaker to students at the Sewanhaka Central High School District’s 22nd annual Model UN Conference. The conference was held at New Hyde Park Memorial High School.
Model UN is an educational program in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. Model UN involves and teaches research, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. During the conference, teams from New Hyde Park, Sewanhaka, Floral Park, Elmont, and Carey High Schools discussed issues such as eminent domain; the digital divide; the Iran Hostage Crisis of 1980; the crisis in the Ukraine; and raising awareness and education about mental health issues.
