Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited Mary Jane Davies Park in Manhasset to support the Don Scott Memorial Foundation’s fifth annual memorial 5K run.
The Don Scott Memorial Foundation is dedicated towards continuing the work of Donald H. Scott, a longtime Manhasset High School teacher and coach who tragically lost his battle with colon cancer in 2010. The Foundation was created by Mr. Scott’s son, Don, to support the fight against colon cancer by raising awareness, supporting research, and providing outreach support, as well as support Manhasset High School’s student athletes. The Foundation’s annual memorial 5K run raises funds to support its mission, raise awareness about colon cancer and celebrate Don Scott’s life and years of devotion to the Manhasset community.
“Long after graduating from school, we remember those special teachers who made a difference, who went above and beyond, and inspired us to succeed. During his four decades as an educator, Don Scott was one of those teachers. Though he sadly is no longer with us, the Foundation created in his memory is ensuring that he continues to make a difference in the lives of others. I’m pleased to support the Foundation and the great work they are doing in Don Scott’s memory,” said Senator Martins.
