ALBANY, 03/25/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) today proudly welcomed students from Cooperstown Central School to Albany as part of the 42nd annual “Music in our Schools Month” celebration.
“Performances like the ones coordinated by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), are a terrific showcase for the talent that exists in schools throughout the state,” said Senator Seward. “I enjoyed meeting with the students from Cooperstown and hearing the results of their hard work.”
Choirs, orchestras and bands from across the state travel to Albany throughout the month of March to perform in the concourse of the Empire State Plaza as part of “Music in our Schools Month”.
“We are in the middle of state budget negotiations at the Capitol, and it is wonderful to see and hear first-hand exactly what we are working to fund and protect. Music education plays an important role in developing a well-rounded student. Problem solving, creativity and critical thinking are just a few of the skills enhanced through music. I have fought long and hard to protect aid to our schools so programs like music will continue to receive much needed funding,” Seward concluded.
