ALBANY, 05/19/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today presented the family of Andre Maurice of Richmondville with a legislative resolution during a special remembrance ceremony in Albany. The resolution formally recognizes the contributions Mr. Maurice made to the Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad and the community.
Maurice lost his life in the line of duty shortly after completing an emergency call on March 26, 2014.
“Andre Maurice was a selfless volunteer and his dedication to the Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad, will never be forgotten” said Senator Seward. “While only a member of the squad for a short time, he had an immediate and positive impact, and was extremely proud to put on the RVES uniform. Even in death, his concern for others continues to make a profound difference. As an organ donor, Andre lives on and has helped better the lives of five other individuals and their families.”
Maurice was honored during a special ceremony and his name placed on the New York State Emergency Medical Services Memorial. The memorial features a large granite tablet with a graceful and flowing “Tree of Life” engraved on its surface. This is in keeping with the theme of the National EMS Memorial, with the “leaves” on the New York “tree” in the shape of the “Star of Life,” the national symbol of the EMS. In honor of each member who falls in the line of duty, an EMS star is placed on the tree.
Senate resolution J.2197 was sponsored by Senator Seward and adopted on May 15, 2015.
