ALBANY, 04/29/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today lauded the release of federal and state funds totaling $37 million for flood recovery in Schoharie County:
“I am pleased that FEMA has finally taken this long overdue step to help aid Schoharie County’s recovery from Hurricane Irene. It is a credit to Congressman Gibson, state, and local officials who kept this vital need in the forefront.
“The best news for local taxpayers is that this new state of the art building will be built in a safe location outside of the flood plain and at no local cost. Immediately following the storm in 2011, I fought hard to make sure New York State would cover the local share of any municipal flood repairs. In this case, FEMA assistance will fund 75-percent of the project with the state picking up the remainder of the costs, which includes the county’s 12.5-percent share.
“Schoharie County has worked extremely hard for nearly four years to rebound from the devastating storms and the resilience by all is to be commended. Rebuilding the county’s emergency hub is a crucial step that will ensure public safety and save taxpayers money.”
