Statement On End Of 2015 Legislative Session

James L. Seward

June 26, 2015

ALBANY, 06/25/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today commented on the close of the 2015 legislative session:

“New relief for middle-class homeowners, extension of the landmark property tax levy cap, and constructive education reforms, advanced in the final days of the legislative session, all represent significant wins on issues important to the people of my district.

“These accomplishments come on the heels of a fiscally-responsible, on-time budget approved earlier this year that provided record education aid to our schools, kept taxes in check, and boosted economic development initiatives.

“While the 2015 legislative session was marked by a number of difficult challenges, including the resignation of two legislative leaders, the people’s business remained my focus and we were able to take action on a number of items that address local needs and concerns.  However, I will be the first to acknowledge that there is unfinished business – further economic development, more mandate relief, SAFE Act repeal and reform – are all issues that I will continue push.”
