Richmond Hill Community Day
October 19, 2015
State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village) brought his office to the people with a Richmond Hill Community Day event held on October 6, 2015 at the Richi Rich Palace. There he met one-on-one with residents, listening to their issues, concerns and suggestions.
"Sometimes we need help and the ability to depend on each other," Sanders said. "I am here to serve the community. I refer to my constituents as my bosses, because I work for them."
Attendees sought assistance with a myriad of problems including obtaining Social Security Income and veterans benefits and help with motor vehicle violations. Others made suggestions for expanding involvement in the Indo-Caribbean community. Sanders’ staffers took careful notes and filled out constituent intake forms so they could examine specific issues in greater detail and follow-up with extended help.
Richmond Hill Community Day is part of Senator Sanders' mobile office initiative, which aims to reach more constituents and make it easier for them to access services. It will travel to different areas of the senator's district on a rotating basis.
