State Senator James Sanders (D-Rochdale Village) gave out 240 backpacks and over 1,000 school supplies at a Back-to-School Jamboree and Family Fun Day on Saturday in Brookville Park, which he co-sponsored with City Council Member Donovan Richards and State Senator Leroy Comrie.

"This weekend we did what we do best - serve the people," Senator Sanders said. "We were able to provide notebooks, folders, pens, journals, calculators and a whole assortment of other school supplies to children in Southeast Queens."

Hundreds of people from the community turned out to enjoy the festivities, which included field games, a bouncy house, snacks, arts & crafts and a special appearance by the Federation of Black Cowboys.

We would like to thank our sponsors: the When in Need Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides educational grants and other support to disadvantaged people around the world; A.S.A.P. Logistics, LTD., and the Queens Library; as well as all of the other organizations who gave of their  time and contributed supplies to ensure the success of the event.
