(Albany, NY – May 6, 2015) State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village) honored Jacqueline (Jackie) Campbell as his 2015 “Woman of Distinction,” an award given to outstanding women living and working in New York State whose contributions have enriched the quality of life in their community and beyond.
"I am proud to be able to recognize a hard working community advocate like Jackie, who is so deserving of this award," Sanders said. "I am sure she will continue to do great things for this district."
Jackie's interest in community affairs and helping others began at an early age in her home country of Jamaica, where she attended political rallies with her grandmother and became a youth leader at a YWCA. At age 14, she organized a track and field competition in her neighborhood aimed at uniting the youth in her community.
After immigrating to the United States, Jacqueline attended Baruch College, where she was elected Senior Business Senator in the Student Government. In 1991, she moved to Rosedale and has been active in her home neighborhood ever since.
Jackie was the Vice President of the PTA at PS 195, founded the 147th Road Block and Community Association of which she is the president, is a member of the Rosedale Civic Association and a member of the Idlewild Watershed Communities Planning Committee - New York Risings Community Reconstruction Program.
But her civic duty doesn't end there. Jackie is a member of Community Board 13 and volunteers with the American Cancer Society program and AARP Advocacy Program, and was a board member of the Cross Island YMCA.
Jacqueline Campbell is a woman of many talents, passions and accomplishments. Her commitment to consistent betterment of her community is admirable and an inspiration to others.
