State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village), a champion of housing rights, listened intently to the concerns of hundreds of NYCHA residents who descended on Albany on Monday. They were there to demand increases in state funding for public housing developments, money which is needed to make important repairs and correct dangerous conditions.
"Many NYCHA buildings are more than five decades old and rapidly deteriorating," Sanders said. "We cannot leave these residents to suffer with conditions such as leaking roofs, mold, falling plaster, broken heating equipment and rats and mice. Public housing is a vital source of affordable housing for many New Yorkers, and we need to make sure all NYCHA developments are safe, clean and maintained properly.”
