New Funding Boosts Local High School’s Enrichment Opportunities for Hundreds of Students
BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), joined by more than 100 school administrators, parents and students announced $18,000 in Project BOOST (Building Options and Opportunities for Students) funding for the Collegiate Institute for Math and Science on Wednesday, April 15th in the Bronx. The announcement came at the school’s annual spring art show.
“Whether it’s making sure our students are ready for high school or simply helping them ace that test, Project BOOST provides today’s students with the tools they need to be successful tomorrow. I’m proud to have secured $18,000 in BOOST funding for the Collegiate Institute for Math and Science, and more than $700,000 for schools across the Bronx. Project BOOST offers our students innovative cultural and academic enrichment opportunities that will both influence and shape their educational paths moving forward. I want to thank the parents and administrators for their ongoing support and commitment to great this program,” said Senator Klein.
“The funding Senator Klein has provided our school through Project BOOST has been invaluable,” said Fredrick Nelson, Principal of the Collegiate Institute for Math and Science. “Through Project BOOST we have been able to open new doors for our students – taking them on class trips, providing them with the tutoring and support they need and helping them excel both and in and out of the classroom. We are very grateful to Senator Klein for the support he has shown our school and his efforts on behalf of all Bronx students K-12.”
This year, the Collegiate Institute for Math and Science used BOOST funds to benefit students in a variety of ways, including tutoring and professional development services, a class trip to Yale Model UN, parent meetings and family nights, a trip for the school’s band to play at Madison Square Garden, as well as initiatives for honor roll students and those with perfect attendance.
Project BOOST is an enrichment program targeted at elementary and middle school students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic success but come from disadvantaged or underserved neighborhoods. Currently, Project BOOST operates in 60 elementary and middle schools, serving more than 700 students in grades four through eight across New York City.
