A representative from my office, Robert Itzla, attended last evening’s public hearing regarding the $9 million Narrowsburg Bridge Repair Project. The bridge is in need of repair due to heavy deterioration of the bridge deck and pedestrian walking paths. Over 50 people attended the informational meeting to hear from New York and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials. During the repair of the bridge, one lane will be open to allow for traffic to pass over the bridge. However there will be 15 instances over the 2 year period where the bridge will be completely closed. These closures will only occur at night. The crews will be prohibited from closing the bridge during the weekend and major events.
Much of the focus at last evenings public hearing dealt with the impact the project would have on emergency personnel. Department of Transportation officials assured those in attendance that fire and EMS will be given adequate notice of overnight closures, which will allow first responders to change response plans and coordinate with alternative fire departments. Ambulance companies will have crews on either side of the bridge during overnight closures.
The project is slated to begin in spring 2017 and finished by early 2018.
