SENATOR BONACIC APPLAUDS THE WORK OF THE BRAVE FIRST RESPONDERS BATTLING THE SHAWANGUNK RIDGE WILDFIRE
(Middletown, NY)- Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I-Mt. Hope) released the following statement praising the work of local first responders who are battling the wildfire in the Shawangunk Ridge. So far the wildfire has burned over 2,600 acres of Shawangunk Ridge land but state officials believe that the fire is 82 percent contained and are cautiously optimistic that it will be 100 percent contained by Thursday.
“The men and women who are battling this blaze should be commended for the courageous work they have been doing,” said Bonacic. “An incident like this causes unique challenges for fire crews and rescue teams, but everyone involved in the response has handled the situation with efficiency and the utmost professionalism. It is a credit to the work they have been doing that no one has been seriously injured or killed.”
Fire and rescue teams from Orange, Sullivan, Delaware and Ulster counties have assisted in the response, as well the NY State Incident Management Team and the NY State Police.
