(Bronx, NY)- Senator Serrano co-sponsored a series of town halls in the South Bronx with the New York City Health Department and other elected officials, regarding the Legionnaires' outbreak in the South Bronx. Concerned community residents packed the auditorium for each meeting, as the New York City Health Department provided updates and information.
"An outbreak like this is particularly concerning in a community like the South Bronx, given the chronic health disparities in our neighborhoods and the high prevalence of pre-existing conditions, such as asthma and diabetes," said Senator Serrano. "The risk of complications resulting from Legionnaires' is very high given these underlying factors. It is my hope that the City Health Department takes into account these health disparities when dealing with serious outbreaks in communities like the South Bronx."
