(Albany, NY)- Senator Serrano appeared as a guest on “Meet the Leaders” and spoke about his priorities for 2015, especially the incredibly urgent call for more arts and music education. Serrano expressed the importance of bringing back arts and music education in schools that have cut or reduced them to provide our children with the best education possible.
“Having a well-rounded education is extremely beneficial in our society," said Senator Serrano. "Ultimately, you want to have students who are well educated, but that also have a creative side that allows them to think outside the box and to think of new ideas. We have a changing economy - generations ago we were built around a manufacturing economy, but those days are over. The new economy is a very technical and ideas driven economy. If we don’t have the arts and music education and we aren't teaching kids to think outside the box - how are we going to develop that side?”
Senator Serrano also discusses topics such as his diverse district, transportation expansion and priorities like affordable housing and the DREAM Act.
