(Upper East Side, NY)- Senator Serrano vowed to fight for community input on any potential development at Holmes Towers. The City has discussed building a mixed-income high-rise on top of land currently occupied by a playground at Holmes Tower.
Senator Serrano spoke before Manhattan Community Board 8 and stated: "I want you all to know whatever the situation is or plans going forward, I will demand that the community have a strong voice in the development and that affordability in perpetuity be the ultimate goal so we can have a city that is affordable, not just for the very wealthy, but for working class folks that make this community what it is. We are losing affordable housing at an alarming rate."
Senator Serrano introduced bill S1166, which would require New York City's Uniform land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) before NYCHA can sell, lease, or otherwise depose of any land.
