Howard Beach, NY (July 27, 2015): State Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. is proud to be one of many New Yorkers supporting the city’s “Shut the Front Door” initiative aimed at conserving energy and protecting the environment, especially at small businesses.

Created by the City Department of Consumer Affairs, the program encourages businesses to keep their front door closed whenever the air conditioning is running. This simple action has major incentives that include saving money and preserving energy resources while also helping New Yorkers beat the heat during the summer.

“Making sure your front door is shut while you have your air conditioner running is a simple and effortless way to do your part to help protect our planet,” Addabbo, who is a member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, stated. “This easy fix can help you stay cool and comfortable by keeping the cold air in and can also save thousands of dollars in utility expenses, not to mention the environmental benefit of cutting down on air pollution. I welcome this initiative from the Department of Consumer Affairs and thank the agency for taking such insightful action to promote this cause.”

Addabbo, who walked along Grand Avenue in Maspeth and spoke to many businesses there,  believes that the city becomes more business-friendly when the Department of Consumer Affairs works cooperatively with local businesses.
