Senators request immediate delay to process and answers to a myriad of questions

July 31, 2015 - Senator Ken LaValle, together with all Long Island State Senators, today called for a halt in the proposed PSEG-LI rate increase.  In a strongly worded and wide ranging letter, the Senators expressed a myriad of concerns about the rate increase, debt load increase, and the lack of transparency in this first rate case since the LIPA Reform Act was implemented.

While reinforcing that protecting ratepayers was the priority, the Senators requested an immediate extension of the comment period and additional hearings to be held to address the issues.  The lawmakers question whether the current structures and decisions are working in the best interests of homeowners, businesses, and local governments.

Senator Ken LaValle said, “It’s critically important to keeping electric rates low for Long Islanders. The current rate plan request from PSEG-LI is not in best interests of our constituents.  We request an immediate response to our many concerns, an extension of the comment period and further hearings by the LI-DPS to allow our issues to be considered and resolved.”

He continued, “This is the first time that rates are being addressed under the LIPA Reform Act and how this procedure is conducted will set the precedent for future rate proceedings.  This process must be done with utmost transparency and deference to the ratepayers of Long Island.“
