Statement From Senator Krueger On UFC Attempt To Overturn State MMA Ban
Liz Krueger
September 29, 2015
New York – State Senator Liz Krueger released the following statement today in reaction to reports that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has filed a legal challenge in an attempt to overturn New York State's longstanding ban on Mixed Martial Arts (MMA):
"New York has consistently rejected MMA, and the Legislature is right to maintain the ban on this extremely violent activity. MMA creates a culture of violence and misogyny, increases long-term healthcare costs for fighters who will suffer dementia and other health problems caused by traumatic brain injuries, and it will not lead to significant increased economic activity if legalized. This lawsuit is just another example of UFC’s arrogant disregard for the best interests of New Yorkers."
