Senator Panepinto Announces Thousands In State Aid For Library Construction

More than $140,000 in grants to be distributed to libraries for infrastructure improvements
Buffalo, N.Y. - Senator Marc Panepinto (D-Buffalo) announced $141,108 in funding today for four public libraries within the 60th State Senate District. The funding comes as part of 182 construction grants awarded to libraries across the state from the New York State Library.
Supported by a $14 million capital fund appropriation the 2014-2015 state budget, funding totaling $141,108 will be distributed to the City of Tonawanda Public Library, Town of Tonawanda (Kenilworth) Public Library, Town of Tonawanda (Kenmore) Public Library and the Hamburg Public Library.
“The use of public libraries across the U.S. is on the rise, and those in Western New York are no exception,” said Senator Marc Panepinto (D-Buffalo). “Regardless of their social or economic background, residents of all ages continue to look to these transformative spaces for guidance, career preparation and a sense of community. With the increased digitization of information, the use of public computers at local libraries are at an all-time high making funding for public libraries more valuable than ever. I am encouraged that these anchors in our community are receiving the funding necessary to provide a safe and structurally sound environment to continue that work now and in the future.”
Funding comes through the Public Library Construction Grant Program and is broken down as follows:
- $28,904 - City of Tonawanda Public Library
- Energy efficient boiler and HVAC components
- $17,235 - Town of Tonawanda Public Library (Kenilworth)
- Energy efficient windows
- Automatic door opener in compliance with ADA standards
- $50,291 - Town of Tonawanda Public Library (Kenmore)
- Accessibility project to refurbish library’s elevator and connect it to the alarm system, ensuring continued access to the library
- $48,582 - Hamburg Public Library (Lake Shore)
- Roof replacement
