HIGH SCHOOL RESEARCH COMPETITION HOSTED BY COMMODORE BARRY CLUB OF BROOKLYN

High school students who are interested in researching Irish American history and the contributions of Irish Americans to the United States are asked to submit a five to eight minute research paper on the theme of Commodore John Barry. In particular, the writer will address why she/he admires Commodore Barry, the person, and how they see the Commodore's admirable characteristics reflected in the lives of other Irish American historical figures or in the lives of people they personally know.

Entries shall be submitted between Monday, December 14, 2015 and Friday, February 19, 2016 electronically to info@commodorebarryclubbrooklyn.org as a MSWord attachment or in some compatible format.

The first prize will be one thousand dollars ($1,000), the second five hundred dollars ($500) and the third two hundred fifty dollars ($250.)

A blind jury of educators who have participated in past educational presentations will be the judges.

The format shall be as follows. The first page shall be a cover letter indicating the name of the contestant, the title of the paper, the high school attended and the contact information for the contestant. None of the following pages shall contain the name, high school or any other personal information about the contestant.

The authors of the top selected papers will be invited to deliver their papers at ceremonies at Commodore Barry Park, located at Flushing Avenue and Navy Streets in downtown Brooklyn at 11 AM on Saturday, March 12th and to be our guests for a luncheon which will follow.
