Second Joint Committee Hearing Examining Police Saftey and Public Protection

The New York State Senate will hold its second joint committee hearing examining police safety and public protection on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Hearing Room A of the Legislative Office Building in Albany.
The hearing will be convened by four Senate committees – Codes, chaired by Senator Michael Nozzolio (R-C, Fayette); Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections, chaired by Senator Pat Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma); Investigations and Government Operations, chaired by Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset); and Civil Service and Pensions, chaired by Senator Martin Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn).
The hearing will provide a thorough and balanced review of the state’s criminal justice system to assess serious safety concerns raised by the shooting deaths of two NYPD Officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, in addition to other recent attacks and hostility directed at law enforcement.
People expected to provide testimony at the hearing include:
- Thomas Krumpter, Acting Police Commissioner, Nassau County Police Department;
- R. Bruce McBride, Commissioner, University Police;
- Thomas Mungeer, President, The Police Benevolent Association of the NYS Troopers;
- Sheriff Kevin Mulverhill, Franklin County Sheriff;
- Jeff Kayser, President, NYS Police Investigators Association;
- Frank Sedita, President, District Attorneys Association of the State of New York;
- Michael Powers, President, NYS Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association;
- Drew Cavanagh, PBA Secretary and Director of the Forest Ranger Superior Officers;
- Bernard Rivers, Captain, Chief Environmental Conservation Officer;
- Margaret Ryan, Executive Director of the NYS Association of Chiefs of Police;
- David Zack, Chief, Cheektowaga Police Department, 2nd VP, NYS Association of Chiefs of Police;
- Dr. Robert Worden, Director, and Dr. Sarah J. McLean, Associate Director, The Finn Institute;
- Tom Czyz, Co-Founder/CEO, Armoured One.
