Senator Golden Urges Residents to Fight Against Water Board Proposal to Increase Rates

Brooklyn– Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is today alerting residents to the proposal under consideration by the New York City Water Board that would put into effect another rate hike of a projected 3.24%. Public comment about the proposal is now being accepted, and if approved, the increase would be reflected starting in your July water bill.

Senator Golden is urging folks to attend the Brooklyn Borough public hearing to protest the proposed increase scheduled for Tuesday, April 28th at 7PM at St Francis College, Founders Hall 180 Remsen Street. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection announced the proposed Fiscal Year ‘16 Water and Sewer Rate increase at a meeting of the New York City Water Board on March 27th, 2015.

“The Water Board needs to know that their thoughtless decisions and actions have negative financial consequences for the hardworking people of our city,” stated Senator Golden. “The only chance we have to stop the NYC Water Board’s soaking of taxpayers is by attending the public hearing and expressing our outrage. The Water Board must hear from us before they approve any water rate increases that will contribute to the financial drowning of New Yorkers.”
