In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio and the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester are hosting a Community Roundtable discussion with breast cancer survivors on Friday, October 16 in Geneva. The purpose of the discussion is to learn from those who have been affected by breast cancer, and to learn from their experiences following diagnosis. Issues to be discussed include treatment, available services, education and follow up support.
“The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester is an invaluable resource to our region and Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an ideal time to highlight all the Coalition offers to those individuals who have been diagnosed and their families,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The Coalition provides important information about early detection, mammograms, physicians, insurance and local support groups. Early detection is paramount and when found early, breast cancer can be highly treatable. By working together to provide more knowledge and resources, we can make a difference in the lives of people with breast cancer. We can also save lives by promoting the need for regular checkups and screenings,” concluded Nozzolio.
Recognizing the importance of breast cancer awareness, Senator Nozzolio has supported numerous endeavors to encourage early detection and regular screenings. Senator Nozzolio recently joined with several other members of the New York State Senate to secure $200,000 in state funding for the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. The funding will support the Coalition’s efforts to reach more individuals impacted by breast cancer and help to provide expanded cancer services in the region.
The Breast Cancer community roundtable discussion will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. in the conference room at the Geneva Country Club. All individuals who have been affected by breast cancer are invited to attend. If you would like to attend the discussion, please call Senator Nozzolio’s office at 315-568-9816 to register for the event.
Senator Nozzolio is urging everyone to take advantage of the services provided by the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester by calling 585-473-8177 or visiting their website at www.bccr.org. The Coalition is made up of survivors, supporters, a caring staff, and a passionate community.
