State Senator Nozzolio today announced that the State Senate has enacted legislation which he sponsored to create the “New York State Veterans Remembrance” license plate. This distinctive plate will be available to veterans or spouses of veterans in honor of their service and sacrifice to our state and nation.
“There is no greater debt of honor owed to anyone, than that which we as Americans owe to the brave men and women who have served and currently serve in our Armed Forces,” said Senator Nozzolio. “This distinctive license plate will allow us to recognize and honor our veterans, as they so rightly deserve.”
Additionally, this legislation creates the opportunity to honor those veterans who have given so much for our freedom by supporting the New York State Veterans Remembrance and Cemetery Maintenance Operation Fund. This funding is a critical first step to establishing a federally recognized State Veterans' Cemetery in our state. Excess revenue collected from “New York State Veterans Remembrance” license plate fees will be allocated towards the cemetery fund.
Legislation enacted last year allows New York to join the federally recognized State Veterans Cemetery Program and to potentially receive needed financial support.
“The New York State Veterans Remembrance and Cemetery Maintenance Operation Fund is critical in supporting New York State Veterans Cemeteries, such as Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region,” continued Nozzolio. “This legislation will provide additional sources of revenue to the fund, and help New York to potentially benefit from the federal State Veterans Cemetery Program. We owe it to our veterans to ensure that those who have borne the cost for our freedom have a place of dignity as their final resting place.” concluded Nozzolio.
The measure has been sent to the Assembly.
