(Astoria, NY) – Senator Michael Gianaris joined the Summer Reading Club at the Queens Library Broadway branch. Senator Gianaris participated in educational activities, reading aloud “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” to parents and children between the ages of five and twelve.
“It is important that our children are challenged academically year-round. I am glad I have the opportunity to encourage summer reading and help prepare our kids for the arrival of the new school year. I want to see our children succeed and will continue to fight to guarantee educational resources keep up with development.”
“Leisure reading and fun, reading-related activities are so important in helping children retain learning over the summer. Queens Library’s summer reading program is the perfect place for it. It encourages children when they know that community and government leaders are interested in reading and in their academic success. We thank Sen. Gianaris for being a great role model and supporting Queens Library’s goals,” said Bridget Quinn-Carey, Interim President and CEO.
As a product of our local public schools, Senator Gianaris is an active advocate for improving our schools. As western Queens continues to grow, Senator Gianaris has fought to keep our schools open and ensure that the state provides the funds necessary for our schools to succeed.
