Albany, NY –World War II veteran and Clarence resident John L. Mosher has been selected – by State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer – as a New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame Inductee for the 61st District for his gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces and service to the community.

Drafted in March 1945, Mosher served as a rifleman and mortar gunner in Company H of the 88th Division of the 350th Regiment.  He served in Tarcento, Italy as a post-war peacekeeper on the Yugoslavian border until his honorable discharge in December 1946.

For nearly five decades, Mosher has been active with the American Legion Post 838 in various roles, from Post Commander to Post Board of Directors.  He also participates in both the Clarence Memorial Day Parade and Clarence Center Fireman’s Labor Day Parade each and every year.

“I am very proud to be honoring John for his military service during the Second World War.   Like so many of our veterans, he returned home from war and continued serving our community.  He truly lives by his personal motto, God put us here to help others,” said Ranzenhofer.

“It has been such an honor to travel to the State Capitol and join so many distinguished veterans from across the state of New York as a member of the Veterans’ Hall of Fame.  I feel very strongly about serving my fellow citizens.  It was a wonderful experience for me and my fellow veterans.  Thank you to Senator Ranzenhofer for nominating me,” said Mosher.

Mosher received numerous awards for his distinguished service: Army Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and WWII Victory Ribbon.

Mosher has been active with the Clarence JC’s, Clarence Chamber of Commerce and Clarence Center Citizen’s Sewer Task Force.  He has been president of St. John’s Lutheran Home for Children for ten years, serving as a board member for 43 years.  He has also been instrumental in developing a continuum care community at Niagara Lutheran Health Center.
