Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) and the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester are marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a round table discussion about the disease.  The event will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on October 21 at the Wyoming County Department of Social Services at 466 N. Main Street in Warsaw.

“Like many in Western New York, breast cancer has had a significant impact on my family,” Gallivan said.  “My wife, Mary Pat, is a breast cancer survivor and is doing well today thanks to the treatment she received and the support of our loved ones.  It’s so important that we talk about this terrible disease and make sure everyone understands the importance of early detection.”

The event will allow breast cancer survivors to share their experiences and to talk about the resources available in the community.  Family members touched by a breast cancer diagnosis are also welcome to participate.

"No one needs to go through breast cancer alone,” said Tracy Brown, Regional Outreach Director for the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.  “If you or a loved one receives a diagnosis of breast cancer, the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester is here to help. The Coalition offers education and support programs, as well as advocacy for those uninsured or underinsured. The Coalition is a full-scope, grass-roots breast cancer organization serving survivors and families throughout the Finger Lakes Region of Central and Western New York. We can help you find resources in your own community."

The round table discussion is free but space is limited.  Those interested in attending should register for the event by contacting Annie Chwiecko at annie@senatorgallivan.com or calling Senator Gallivan’s district office at 716-656-8544.
