Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) is teaming up with the Buffalo Audubon Society for a one day informational session on careers related to the environment. The event will be held Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Beaver Meadow Audubon Center at 1610 Welch Road in North Java.
“There are so many career opportunities for high school students with an interest in the environment and conservation,” Gallivan said. “This event will give students a chance to talk with representatives from area colleges and to meet people who work in this fascinating field, including park rangers, wildlife managers and environmental engineers.”
Participants will include New York State Parks, Ecology & Environment, the University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College and U-S Fish and Wildlife.
"Students from Western New York have the opportunity to pursue careers that allow them to spend time in amazing outdoor places like the Beaver Meadow Audubon Center,” said Loren Smith, Executive Director of the Buffalo Audubon Society. “We hope that students and their families will enjoy seeing demonstrations of some of the tools and techniques used in careers that focus on the environment."
The Beaver Meadow Audubon Center is a 384 acre preserve owned by Buffalo Audubon and used for nature education and conservation activities. More information on organization and career day activities is available at www.buffaloaudubon.org.
