Department Will Use Funds to Purchase Generator for Emergency Situations
State Senator Patty Ritchie today announced she has secured $50,000 in funding to help the Brier Hill Fire Department operate more effectively and better protect residents.
Funding secured by Senator Ritchie will assist the department with the purchase of a new, state of the art generator to be used in emergency situations.
“Whether they’re battling blazes or lending a hand during snowstorms, each and every day, we have the men and women of our local volunteer fire departments to thank for the work they do to keep us safe,” said Senator Ritchie. “I’m pleased to be able to provide this funding, which will help to ensure that the Brier Hill Volunteer Fire Department is always ready to answer the call when emergencies arise.”
“For a long time, our department has been in need of a generator to use in emergency situations,” said Brier Hill Fire Chief Shawn Macaulay. “The readiness of our department depends on important equipment like this, and we cannot thank Senator Ritchie enough for this funding which will improve our ability to protect the people of our community and keep them safe.”
According to fire department officials, the new generator—which is much larger and advanced than the generator they currently utilize—will provide them with enough power to run their whole facility for longer durations, giving them the ability to set up shelters for residents, those from neighboring communities or travelers who could be stranded in dangerous weather or other emergencies.
