Ritchie-Sponsored Events Happening at Transfer Stations Across Oswego County
State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding Oswego County residents that another round of free waste tire disposal events will take place on Saturday, August 15th from 8:00 a.m. to noon at transfer stations throughout Oswego County.
“Mosquitoes are small, but as we’ve seen, they can be deadly,” said Senator Ritchie. “Waste tires have the potential to act as breeding ground for up to one million of these dangerous insects, and with every waste tire disposed of we are cutting down on the chances of someone contracting mosquito borne diseases like EEE or West Nile.”
The events—which are being hosted in conjunction with the Oswego County Department of Solid Waste—come just over a week after the announcement that the deadly Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) disease was found in Oswego County. According to the County Health Department, spraying for mosquitoes is expected to take place Friday evening in the towns of Constantia, Hastings and West Monroe. Depending on weather, the spraying is anticipated to take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
At Saturday’s drop off events, residents may dispose of up to eight tires, with the usual disposal fee being waived at the following locations from 8:00 a.m. to noon:
· Bristol Hill Landfill, 3125 NYS Rte. 3
· Hannibal Transfer Station, 1167 Co. Rte. 7
· Hastings Transfer Station, 1391 US Rte. 11
· Pulaski Transfer Station, 100 Co. Rte. 2A
· Oswego Transfer Station, 700 East Seneca St.
Please note that tractor tires will be accepted but must be cut into quarters.
Disposal events are being made possible through special grants Senator Ritchie secured in the State Budget to help “Fight the Bite” and prevent diseases carried by mosquitoes. In recent years, Senator Ritchie has worked to deliver more than a half million dollars in State Budget funding to help fight EEE and raise awareness of the dangers posed by mosquitoes. In addition, throughout the past several years, residents in Central and Northern New York have eliminated more than 35,000 waste tires through Senator Ritchie’s free tire drop off events.
