Reminder: Ritchie to Host Free Waste Tire Disposal Events Saturday in Oswego and St. Lawrence Counties

Patty Ritchie

State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding residents of St. Lawrence and Oswego Counties that she will be hosting a second round of free waste tire disposal events on Saturday, May 9th from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

The events are part of an ongoing effort by Senator Ritchie and local community leaders to clean up our region, eliminate breeding ground for mosquitoes that could spread diseases—like Eastern Equine Encephalitis, or EEE—and protect the environment.  The disposal events are funded through special grants that Senator Ritchie secured in the State Budget to help “Fight the Bite” and prevent EEE and other mosquito-borne diseases.

“Throughout the past two years, people throughout St. Lawrence and Oswego Counties have eliminated nearly 20,000 waste tires through my free disposal events,” said Senator Ritchie.

“I’m hopeful that more people pitch in and help clean up our region and protect the public health—as well as the environment—by taking part in Saturday’s free disposal events.”

Oswego and St. Lawrence County residents may dispose of up to eight tires at their local events, with the usual disposal fees being waived. In Oswego County, tractor tires are accepted only if cut into quarters. Tractor tires are not accepted at the free disposal events in St. Lawrence County.

The free disposal events, which are being held from 8:00 a.m. to noon in conjunction with the counties’ public works officials, are taking place at the following locations:

St. Lawrence County:

·      Gouverneur Transfer Station, located at 1831 State Highway 11
