Event to Take Place in Jefferson County from 7:30 a.m. to Noon
State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding Jefferson County residents that they can dispose of waste tires for free at a special event on Saturday August 1st.
Hosted in conjunction with the Jefferson County Solid Waste Department, the free drop off is aimed at cleaning up the county and reducing the risk of disease, as one waste tire can act as breeding ground for up to one million mosquitoes, which carry deadly illnesses such as EEE and West Nile.
“Many people don’t realize that waste tires aren’t just unsightly, they also can be harmful to our environment and pose a threat to public health,” said Senator Ritchie.
“I’m hopeful that people will take advantage of this free opportunity—which is being made possible thanks to assistance from the Jefferson County Solid Waste Department—to get rid of waste tires that litter lawns and roadsides.”
The disposal event will take place at the County Recycling Center, located at 27138 NYS Route 12 from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Residents will be permitted to drop off a total of eight tires, with the usual fee for drop off being waived. Truck and tractor tires must be cut into quarters.
In recent years, residents in Central and Northern New York have eliminated 30,000 waste tires through Senator Ritchie’s free drop off events. For more information, please call (315) 782-3418.
