RITCHIE: $50,000 IN FUNDING TO REPLACE SPRUCE ROAD BRIDGE IN THE TOWN OF EDWARDS

In an effort to increase safety for motorists traveling in the Town of Edwards, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 in special funding to replace area’s Spruce Road Bridge.

In recent years, deterioration of the bridge has caused safety concerns for motorists and school bus drivers, as the bridge is the only available route for Edwards-Knox Central School District buses to pick up children who live in its vicinity.

“When traveling on our local roads and bridges, motorists and passengers shouldn’t have to worry about the condition of our roadways and whether they’re safe on them,” said Senator Ritchie.

“It’s so important that we continue to make investments like this in our infrastructure to help ensure people are able to get to their destinations safely and businesses are able to operate efficiently.  I’m pleased to deliver this funding, which will make the Spruce Road Bridge much safer for those who travel it.”

“For years, the Spruce Road Bridge has been in need of major repairs,” said Town of Edwards Highway Superintendent Duane Sykes.

“Without Senator Ritchie’s help, we wouldn’t have been able to take on a project of this magnitude.  We thank her for recognizing just how important it is to our community to improve this bridge; making it more structurally sound for motorists who travel over it, as well as students whose buses carry them across it to get to and from school.”

Construction of the new bridge is expected to begin in spring of 2016.  Final release of funds is subject to state approval.
