Ritchie Legislation to Help Continue Clayton Riverwalk Signed Into Law

Expansion of Riverwalk Will Improve Waterfront Access 

State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced that her legislation to help the Village of Clayton continue its “Riverwalk”—a recreational public walkway along the St. Lawrence River—has been signed into law.

Under Senate bill 5735-B, the Village of Clayton will be permitted to move forward with the parkland alienation process, exchanging an unused inland portion of parkland for a portion of waterfront property, which will allow the Riverwalk to continue through Frink Park and along the shoreline.

 “In recent years, the Village of Clayton has been working diligently to improve the Thousand Islands region for those who live there year-round, as well as tourists who are visiting the area,” said Senator Ritchie

“This legislation builds on that progress and will help the Village to expand its Riverwalk, which in turn will allow people to more easily enjoy the beautiful St. Lawrence River.”

“The establishment of Clayton’s Riverwalk has been a goal of the Village’s for more than 50 years,” said Mayor Norma Zimmer. “We can’t thank Senator Ritchie enough for her help in moving this legislation forward, which will allow our village to improve access to the Riverwalk and to the waterfront portions of Frink Park.”

Senator Ritchie’s sponsorship of legislation to help the Village of Clayton expand its Riverwalk builds upon her past efforts to help improve the region.  Last year, Senator Ritchie was successful in securing $50,000 to help rebuild the Village’s just-completed “Wooden Castle Playground.” Also, earlier this year, she delivered an additional $50,000 to assist the Town of Clayton with costs associated with upgrades being made at the Depauville Free Library and Cerow Recreation Park Arena.
