State Senator Patty Ritchie is now accepting nominations for the New York State Senate’s “Veterans Hall of Fame,” an initiative created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.
“The brave men and women of our nation’s armed forces sacrifice lives of stability to put everything on the line in the name of protecting our freedom,” said Senator Ritchie.
“This special honor is just one small way we can thank our veterans for their sacrifices.
Once again, I am looking forward to honoring those who even after their time of service, have continued to work to give back and make a difference in their local communities.”
Veterans’ posts, family members, friends and community leaders in Jefferson, Oswego and St. Lawrence Counties are invited to make nominations. Nomination forms are available for download here. Those without access to a computer can have a form mailed to them by calling (315) 782-3418. Nominations must be received by April 10th.
Participation in this special program is just one way Senator Ritchie is working to support the men and women of our military. Her recent efforts on behalf of those who have served include:
- Sponsoring a new law to help disabled veterans find employment by requiring state agencies to seek out veteran-owned businesses for government contracts;
- Sponsoring the new “Hire-a-Vet” tax credit that rewards employers with tax credits when they employ recently returning veterans;
- Securing funding to support programs that are helping Fort Drum soldiers and North Country veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other combat related illnesses; and
- Serving on a national Task Force on Military and Veterans Affairs.
