State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $150,000 in special funding to enhance the Village of Canton for residents and visitors.
Of the funding, $100,000 will be used to make significant upgrades to the Bend in the River Park, which sits at the end of Lincoln Street adjacent to the Canton Recreational Pavilion on the Grasse River. The remaining $50,000 will be used for updates to the Canton Municipal Building, which will increase energy efficiency and make the building more easily accessible for those who are disabled.
“The Village of Canton has worked diligently in recent years to improve the community and make it a better place for individuals and families to live,” said Senator Ritchie.
“This funding, which will be used for major improvements to the Bend in the River Park, as well as for upgrading the municipal building to make it more energy efficient, will help the village continue its mission of making Canton one of the bright spots in the North Country, and I’m pleased to provide this support.”
“Each and every day we work hard to make Canton a place that our community is proud of,” said Village Mayor Mary Ann Ashley. “This support from Senator Ritchie will help make possible two very important projects in our village, and we can’t thank her enough for being a partner in our efforts to make Canton a better place.”
Upgrades to Bend in the River Park made possible through $100,000 in funding secured by Senator Ritchie include the following:
- Reconstructing the park’s pedestrian walkway;
- Repairing the roof of the picnic area;
- Creating camper sites for public rental;
- Constructing a new restroom and shower facility; and
- Adding picnic tables, benches and barbecue grills throughout the park
$50,000 secured for Canton’s more than fifty year-old municipal building include the replacement of old windows and doors with new, energy efficient units as well as the addition of a new door system at the main entrance that will make the building more easily accessible for those who are disabled.
Final release of funds is subject to state approval.
