Watertown Municipal Arena Renovations to be Completed by Spring of 2016
As renovations to the Watertown Municipal Arena continue, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $50,000 to help cover costs associated with the major overhaul of the facility, which is expected to be completed by spring of 2016.
“From ice hockey to concerts, the Watertown Municipal Arena has been utilized for decades by countless individuals and families on a year-round basis,” said Senator Ritchie. “I’m pleased to provide this funding, which will allow the arena to continue to provide the entertainment, recreational activities and community events that make the North Country a more attractive place to live or visit.”
“For years, the Watertown Municipal Arena has been in need of updating and repairs,” said Watertown Mayor Jeffrey Graham. “By giving our arena this major facelift, we’re essentially adding to the quality of life here in the city by providing a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for individuals and families. I’d like to thank Senator Ritchie for her support of the project and for continuing to be a partner in the effort to make Watertown a better place to live.”
Located adjacent to the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds, the arena is utilized for skating, hockey, trade shows, the Jefferson County Fair, festivals, concerts and other community events. The arena overhaul project includes additions that will accommodate larger locker rooms, a new lobby, ticket booth and concession stand, a hospitality room and more.
Funding secured by Senator Ritchie builds on her past efforts to improve the quality of life in the city of Watertown. Last month, she announced $50,000 in funding to assist with the construction of a new monument at the city’s historic Thompson Park that will honor the sacrifices made by 10th Mountain Division soldiers.
Final release of funds secured by Senator Ritchie is subject to state contract completion.
