Funding will help to train first responders prepare and respond to emergencies
Orleans County, represented by State Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I – North Tonawanda) is one of several counties across the state to receive a federal grant in support of anti-terrorism programs and emergency preparedness activities. Orleans County has been awarded $105,000 by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Homeland Security Grant Program. This funding will help prevent, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism and other disasters.
“As a combat veteran, I understand the importance of being aware of and preparing for potential threats while efficiently responding to an unexpected emergency or catastrophic event,” said Ortt. “This grant will help to strengthen our region and give first responders the tools they need to protect innocent lives in the event of a terrorist attack. Funding to combat terrorism is essential to ensure our families are safe.”
The Homeland Security grant will fund necessary equipment for first responders, training exercises, and preparedness efforts including planning and organization in order to protect communities.
