New York City Taxi and Limousine Commissioner to Meet with Hispanic Elected Officials in the Bronx

You should know that this Friday, April 24, 2015 at 12:00 noon the Honorable Meera Joshi, Commissioner of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission will be visiting my District Office, located at 900 Rogers Place in Bronx County, for an exclusive meeting with some elected officials to discuss problems facing the taxi’s non-medallion industry and its drivers.

You should know that, together with Senator Adriano Espaillat and Assemblymen Marcos Crespo, Luis Sepulveda, and Victor Pichardo, I have been conducting a series of meetings with taxi-based owners and drivers to discuss summonses and many other problems that these drivers - who are working to support their families - have been confronting and have been subject to by inspectors and other officers from the Taxi and Limousine Commission.

We, the elected officials, have also decided to invite New York City Councilmember Ydanis Rodriguez to this Friday's meeting, due to the fact that he is the Chair of the New York City Council Committee on Transportation.

It is important for you to know that the problems taxi drivers are facing are nothing new. These problems and abuses have been around for many years and have taken place under too many City Administrations. Former Commissioners have largely ignored a lot of the abusive treatment these industry drivers continue to face.

Ladies and gentlemen, this initiative to bring these old problems to this new Administration and this new Commissioner is so important, because as the old saying goes: The worst thing that you can do is not to try.

On my behalf, I’d like to express my gratitude to New York City Taxi and Limousine Commissioner Meera Joshi, and I look forward to Friday’s meeting.

I am State Senator Rubén Díaz and this is what you should know.
