Hundreds Turn Out for Senior Golden Gathering
HYDE PARK, NY—Hundreds of area seniors turned out on Saturday, October 3, 2015 for a Senior Golden Gathering event hosted by Senator Sue Serino at Arlington High School.
“The Golden Gathering used to be an institution in this area and since taking office in January, countless seniors have asked specifically for this kind of event,” said Senator Serino, who Chairs the Senate’s Aging Committee. “The Golden Gathering was an opportunity for our seniors to come together for a morning dedicated to them—a one-stop shop that helps them gain access to the important information they need.”
The event was put on by the Senator for the benefit of senior citizens across the 41st Senate District and featured free health screenings, free flu shots, entertainment, refreshments, door prizes and almost 100 informational tables from local businesses and organizations geared toward their unique needs.
Thanks to the generosity of the James J. McCann Charitable Trust, the event was free of charge for all who were able to attend.
“I cannot thank the McCann Foundation enough for helping to make this happen, coupled with the incredible support of the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, our team of volunteers, presenters and the over 100 vendors who dedicated a Saturday morning to providing our seniors with the information they need, the event was a tremendous success and I thank everyone who was involved,” Serino continued.
The following services were offered free of charge to seniors:
- Flu Shots (seniors need only bring a photo ID)
- Memory Screening
- Blood Pressure Screening
- Spinal Cord Screening
- Hearing Test
- Presentations on preventing the spread of Lyme Disease
- Presentation given by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging on available Programs and Services
- Presentation given by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging on Medicare
Serino concluded by noting the events significance, “As the Chair of the Aging Committee, I know how important it is to ensure that our seniors have access to the resources that they need to improve their quality of life and to stay right here in our community. The Golden Gathering is one of the ways we can do that locally and you can bet it’ll be back next year!”
