SENATOR SUE SERINO COMMENTS ON ASSEMBLY PASSAGE OF EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK
ALBANY—Senator Sue Serino (R—Hyde Park) released the following statement regarding the Assembly’s move to join the Senate in passing the fair pay provision of the Women’s Equality Act:
“Finally. New York’s women have waited long enough.
This measure delivers tangible results, has the potential to shatter glass ceilings across the State and shift the culture that discourages growth and development within the workplace. This measure will go a long way toward empowering women and breaking down barriers to real progress.
I am proud to say that my first Legislative Act as a State Senator helped the historic Women’s Equality Agenda pass in the New York State Senate.
It’s a new year in Albany and I commend my friends in the Assembly for answering my call to put people ahead of politics and prioritize the needs of New York’s women, but there is still more work to be done.”
Portions of the Women’s Equality Agenda that passed in the Senate earlier this year that would combat sexual harassment in the workplace, end gender discrimination in employment, housing and credit decisions, make reasonable work accommodations available for pregnant women, and provide stronger protections for domestic violence victims, have yet to pass in the Assembly.
