SENATOR SUE SERINO HONORS LOCAL SENIORS
ALBANY—Senator Sue Serino (R—Hyde Park) passed a resolution in the Senate on Tuesday marking May 5, 2015 Senior Citizens’ Day in New York and recognized two local seniors for their invaluable contributions to our communities at a celebration in Albany.
“Our seniors have spent their lives building and shaping the state we know and love today and we are grateful for their commitment and dedication,” said Senator Serino in commenting on the resolution’s passage.
“While words will never be enough to really thank them for their invaluable contributions, it’s important that we recognize and celebrate the work they continue to do and to consider what a critical role they play in all of our communities.”
Elizabeth Devine of Wappingers Falls and Willie Reed of Beacon were among a group of over fifty seniors who were honored in Albany on Tuesday at the Annual Senior Citizens’ Day Celebration.
Mrs. Devine, was also chosen to receive the ‘2015 Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen Award’ and was formally honored on the floor of the NYS Senate Chamber. Mrs. Devine’s lists of accomplishments are extensive—a retired third grade teacher, she is currently the Vice President of the Wappingers Historical Society and serves on the Wappingers Falls Economic Development Committee. She also serves as the Vice President of the Grinnell Library Board and an Associate Board Member for Capital Improvement Resource Development for the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie. She is a dedicated mother and wife and was joined Tuesday by her husband, Jack.
“Talk about a woman who does it all—outstanding does not even begin to describe her contributions,” said Senator Serino during Tuesday’s Legislative Session. “I have no doubt that not only Wappingers, but communities across my district are better for her work.”
“Mrs. Devine and Mr. Reed are shining examples of what makes New York so great,” concluded Serino. “Through their service they have touched the lives of countless individuals and inspired citizens of all ages to play an active role in bettering our communities—and for that we thank them.”
