SENATOR SUE SERINO PARTNERS WITH LOCAL GIRL SCOUTS
Announces Community Yarn Drive
HYDE PARK, NY—Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) announced today that she has partnered with local Girl Scout Troop 10523 to launch a yarn drive for the benefit of our local communities. The yarn will be sent to local assisted living facilities, senior centers and nursing homes, where our seniors will knit hats, gloves, blankets and more for sick patients and area families in need.
“I am beyond impressed with the drive of these young ladies to reach out to those in need in our community. They are a true example of the good that results when our young people take an active role in improving life in our area,” said Senator Serino in reference to Troop 10523. “I am proud to partner with them on a unique initiative that engages our seniors and has the potential to touch countless lives.”
“Our Girl Scout Troop is starting our scout year out with a service project that helps everyone. We get to clean out our yarn supplies not currently in use and donate them to help supply nursing homes with materials, so that their residents can pass it on by making yarn items to help others. I just love this project,” said Troop Leader Amelia Roger. “The people who have donated beautiful yarns are really quite happy to see it be put to use.”
Ms. Roger also noted that the Troop will be at Senator Serino’s Golden Gathering on Saturday October 3, 2015 at Arlington High School to accept donations.
Ms. Roger concluded by inviting other local troops and community members to get involved saying, “I have invited all of our local troops to join in and make this drive a huge success and would encourage all Girl Scouts and constituents in the 41st Senate District to become involved.”
Members of the community can drop new yarn or gently-used yarn scraps off to Senator Serino’s Hyde Park District Office from 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Multiple bags have already been collected and the yarn drive is on-going.
Senator Serino’s District Office is located at 4254 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY 12538. For more information, please call 845-229-0106.
